What is inside

Written to be worked through, not skimmed. Print it and tick as you go.

  • The routineA timeline from four weeks out to the morning you reopen, so nothing gets announced late and nothing gets left switched on.
  • Why the hours matter more than the postA post is seen once by the people who follow you. Your hours are seen by everyone who looks you up, every day of the closure.
  • Six days is the line on GoogleGoogle splits closures at six consecutive days, and the tool you are supposed to use on the other side of that line does not expire by itself.
  • Where your hours liveAn eleven row table to fill in once, with a column for who can actually change each one. That column is usually the uncomfortable part.
  • Your closure plannerFill in eight answers and every template in the pack is copy, paste, send.
  • 21 announcementsWebsite banner, Google post, social, WhatsApp, email, voicemail script, out of office, reduced hours, unplanned closure, and the reopening. In English and again in German.
  • Two printable door signsOne for a closure, one for changed hours today. A4, fill in the dates by hand.
  • When you are backThe undo list, because the stale notice left up in October is the part people actually get wrong.

The problem this solves

A customer who drives to your closed door does not think you must be on holiday. They wonder whether you have shut down, and the next place they try is a competitor. Most small businesses do announce a closure, but they announce it in one or two places and forget the other six, and the ones they forget are the ones a stranger actually checks.

The bit almost everyone gets wrong

Google separates a short adjustment from a long one, and the threshold is six days. Special hours are for a closure of up to six days in a row. For seven or more, Google tells you to mark the profile temporarily closed instead. The catch is that special hours expire by themselves and temporarily closed does not, so the pack has an undo list and tells you to diary it.

Print it and keep it

This one is meant to live on paper. The master list has a column for who can change each listing, the planner has a table for the closures you already know about this year, and the two door signs are ready to print and write on. Fill it in once and every closure after that is ten minutes.

And if the website at the end of it needs work, that is what we do

We build local businesses a proper website for $129 a year, or 110 euro a year in Europe, and that is the whole bill: the build, the design, your domain, hosting, the security certificate, and the changes when you ask for them. We build it first and show it to you live.
